Working Student – Control Systems
- Eindhoven, Netherlands
- RD&D
Job description
AME (part of the Metis Group) is an electronics company located in Brainport Eindhoven. We partner with customers to develop and manufacture high-quality electronic products with full life cycle support. Combining electrical, mechanical, software, and industrial engineering expertise, we innovate in markets like energy and climate. With 25+ years of experience, a skilled workforce, and a strong customer base, AME is a unique technology manufacturing partner in the electronics sector.
The role
As a Working Student – Control Systems at AME, you support the development of advanced control solutions within multidisciplinary projects. You work closely with experienced engineers on real systems, both in simulation and in the lab. This role offers a unique combination of theoretical control design and hands-on tuning, where you directly see the impact of your work on physical systems.
The position is structured for approximately 3 days per week, with flexibility to work additional hours when needed, depending on project demands and your availability.
Your responsibilities
• Support the design and implementation of control algorithms (e.g. PID, state-space, model-based control).
• Assist in modeling and simulation of dynamic systems (e.g. MATLAB/Simulink, Python).
• Participate in system identification and performance analysis.
• Perform hands-on testing and tuning of control systems in the lab.
• Support integration of control algorithms into embedded software or real-time environments.
• Analyze measurement data and translate findings into control improvements.
• Collaborate with hardware and software engineers to optimize overall system performance.
• Document results, experiments, and design choices in a structured way.
Job requirements
Your profile
• Master’s student in Control Systems, Systems & Control, Electrical Engineering, or similar.
• Solid foundation in control theory (feedback systems, stability, dynamics).
• Affinity with real-world systems and experimental work.
• Experience with tools such as MATLAB/Simulink and/or Python.
• Interest in embedded systems or real-time control is a plus.
• Hands-on, analytical, and eager to learn.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Fluent in English (Dutch is a plus).
Why join AME?
• Inspiring, open, and flexible working culture.
• Opportunity to work on real products and systems, not just simulations.
• Direct coaching from experienced engineers in control and power electronics.
• Hands-on lab environment where you can develop practical engineering skills.
• Flat structure and short communication lines.
• A strong learning experience aligned with your master’s studies.
• A place where your ideas and technical curiosity are valued.
