The Factory Automation & Test Development team, as part of our Manufacturing & Engineering department, develops and maintains advanced production and test systems used in our production facility. To be able to deliver a high mix of different (electro-mechanical) products in an efficient way, we focus on scalability and reusability of our systems. Our team consists of development engineers from different disciplines, like mechatronics, mechanical, electronics and software.

Scope of the role

We are seeking an experienced and driven Lead Engineer to take charge of the development of factory automation and test solutions for our integrated electronic products. In this pivotal role, you will lead a multidisciplinary team of 10 to 15 engineers, providing both technical guidance and people management. You’ll work closely with project managers to ensure successful execution of automation and test development projects, while also helping to define and drive the long-term strategy for our factory automation landscape.

Our environment supports high-mix, low to medium volume production, requiring agile, scalable, and innovative approaches to automation and testing. We’re looking for someone who thrives on technical complexity, enjoys collaboration, and is eager to lead the next generation of smart manufacturing solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a team of 10–15 engineers focused on automation and test development.

  • Provide technical direction, mentorship, and act as the team’s go-to expert in engineering matters.

  • Oversee line management responsibilities including performance management, development planning, and resource allocation.

  • Collaborate with project managers to align engineering efforts with project goals, timelines, and customer needs.

  • Drive innovation in automation and test strategies, specifically tailored to high-mix, low to medium volume production environments.

  • Shape and influence the company’s long-term strategy in industrial automation and testing technologies.

  • Ensure the team adopts modern engineering best practices and continuously improves in efficiency and capability.

  • Act as a key stakeholder in cross-functional discussions on process optimization and digital transformation initiatives.

Job requirements

What We’re Looking For

  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical engineering, mechatronics, automation, or a related field.

  • Proven experience in industrial automation and testing systems, preferably in electronics manufacturing.

  • Demonstrated leadership experience, with the ability to inspire and manage a multidisciplinary engineering team.

  • Strong understanding of high-mix manufacturing environments and the challenges/opportunities they bring to automation.

  • A strategic mindset with a passion for innovation and continuous improvement.

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
